About the Farm:
Alexandria Real Estate (“ARE”) and California Farm and Garden have partnered to provide tenants established at SD-Tech a truly unique amenity. Hanging on the side of the Garden Garage, is a one-of-a-kind hydroponics farm brimming with seasonal greens and herbs.
Established in late 2024, the farm is maintained by California Farm and Garden and its expert team of farmers. The growing towers are separated from the Garden Garage by a catwalk on each of the three stories that gives the farmers access to 280 towers, each of which contains 10-20 individual plants. With annual projections surpassing 10,000 pounds, each plant is harvested by hand before being taken to the Park Commons kitchen or the weekly farm stand.
California Farm and Garden is maximizing this amenity for SD-Tech tenants by hosting both a weekly farm stand (with free produce for SD-Tech employees!) and regular classes and events. Having worked with ARE for more than a decade in San Diego, the farmers are always finding ways to exceed ARE’s environmental, sustainability, and wellness goals in less obvious ways too. For example, at the urban farm at Campus Point, food scraps are collected from the Green Acre kitchen then composted on the farm, creating a sustainable closed-loop system; California native plants are grown to foster and sustain local habitats; and there is ongoing resource management by way of water conscious irrigation, carbon sequestration, and more.
As an employee on SD-Tech, please feel free to visit the greenhouse, farm stand, and farm wall to relax or learn! California Farm and Garden farmers are typically on-site Monday-Friday each week, and more than happy to chat.
If you happen to miss the farmers, we’ll happily answer your questions via email at info@cafarmandgarden.com.
