About the Farm:
Alexandria Real Estate (“ARE”) and California Farm and Garden have partnered to provide tenants established at Campus Point a truly unique amenity. Tucked at the end of Campus Point Dr., on the edge of a beautiful canyon, is a half-acre urban farm brimming with seasonal vegetables and herbs, fruiting trees and vines, flowers, and California native plants.
Established over a decade ago, the farm has been organically maintained by California Farm and Garden and its expert team of farmers ever since. More than 86,000 pounds of produce has been harvested by hand here before being walked straight to the Green Acre restaurant or the weekly farm stand. Even when the campus emptied out at the height of COVID lockdown protocols in 2020, the farm was still producing - giving ARE and California Farm and Garden the opportunity to donate nearly 2,000 pounds of fresh produce to San Diego food banks.
Today, California Farm and Garden continues its efforts to maximize this amenity for Campus Point tenants by hosting both a weekly farm stand (with free produce for Campus Point employees!) and regular classes and events. Additionally, the farmers work diligently to exceed ARE’s environmental, sustainability, and wellness goals in less obvious ways: food scraps are collected from the Green Acre kitchen then composted on the farm, creating a sustainable closed-loop system; California native plants are grown to foster and sustain local habitats; and there is ongoing resource management by way of water conscious irrigation, carbon sequestration, and more.
As an employee on Campus Point, please feel free to visit the farm to relax or learn! California Farm and Garden farmers are typically on-site Monday-Friday each week, and more than happy to chat.
If you happen to miss the farmers, we’ll happily answer your questions via email at info@cafarmandgarden.com.
